In the movie Atsushi didn't know everything about Kyouka's past, and Kyouka was not yet reconciled with Demon Snow, plus the ending scene of the movie segues smoothly to the opening scene of this one.Ĭhildren will always look back for there parents approval no mater what happens in life. That doesn't excuse the abuse he suffered, but realizing his "father's" motive helps Atsushi get over his self-hatred, hopefully for good.Īs a side note, Dead Apple's timing has always been off to me, but now I'm sure it has to come right before this episode (and of course it should come after the previous one since that happened right after the fight with the guild). As for Atsushi, a lot of us have grown tired of seeing the flashbacks of the evil orphanage head in the past seasons, but this episode seems to tell us that much of it was internalized and amplified in Atsushi's mind. Before this all we know was that Demon Snow killed Kyouka's parents, thus preventing her from loving her ability completely, but it turns out it was not an ability gone rogue but an order from Kyouka's mother in order to protect her. I think they threw these two unrelated stories together because they both show us "the other side of the coin" of what we previously knew about Kyoka and Atsushi's pasts.
